The Experience

OrgelKidsCAN brings children on a voyage of discovery that comes in a box.
Inside, children will find all the parts they need to build a real working pipe organ.

Children are empowered to discover how the organ is made and how it works by building it. The design is almost self-teaching, and can be built in under an hour with the help of illustrated instruction sheets.  Based on a design by Dutch organ builder Wim Janssen, with enhancements by Canada’s Orgues Létourneau, the kit is carefully designed to be most appealing and educational to children. They’re challenged and encouraged to discover and ask technical questions while building it hands-on.  And, of course, when they’re done, they can play music on it.  That’s why we call it a action-organ rather than a demonstration organ.  We know that kids discover and learn best by doing.  We know that they can apply the science and math skills they’ve learned in school.  We know that…OrgelkidsCAN.

The Kit

The OrgelKidsCAN organ is a mechanical two rank pipe organ in a box.
Inside, children will find all the parts they need to build a real pipe organ.

It comes with an complete set of illustrated assembly instructions plus a teacher’s guide based on the educational curriculum created by Dutch organist Lydia Vroegindeweij.  It is designed to be assembled and disassembled over and over again, letting children discover how it’s made and how it goes together.  In doing so, they apply the principles of science, technology, engineering and math that they learn in school. And when they’re done, they can make music on a real working pipe organ that they have built.

The OrgelkidsCAN kit can be deployed to schools, music festivals, science fairs and museums, making the King of Instruments accessible to children everywhere.

We love kids and want to share this experience with them.   We welcome your feedback and suggestions.

The Program

OrgelKidsCAN is a community outreach program of the Royal Canadian College of Organists (RCCO), a non-profit arts organization representing a community with a passion for the organ and its music.  We love kids, too, and want to share this gift with them in a fun and meaningful way.

The RCCO’s mission is to promote a vibrant and inclusive community that engages more people in the transforming power of the organ and its music. The OrgelKidsCAN program is our way of offering primary school children a unique  hands-on experience building and making music on a real working pipe organ designed for them.
